Q: What nitrogen flow rate should I use when purging and brazing?

For purging, AWS D10.13/D10.13M recommends a flow rate of 25 CFH (12 LPM), with the purging duration depending on the pipe or tube length and size. When brazing tubes under 3″ in size, the manual recommends reducing the nitrogen flow to approximately 5 CFH (2.4 LPM)

Q: Why should I purge with nitrogen before brazing?

Purging with nitrogen displaces oxygen and other vapor contaminants inside the line, helping minimize the formation of oxides during brazing. Oxide flakes can become dislodged after commissioning and circulate through the HVAC/R system, potentially contributing to premature compressor failure.

Q: Can I use the 870 PSI Nitrogen Purging Kit with a refillable nitrogen cylinder?

Yes. In addition to the Ambro Controls disposable nitrogen cylinder, the 870 PSI Nitrogen Purging Kit can be connected to a standard refillable nitrogen cylinder with a CGA580 connection using the included M10x1 to CGA580 adapter.
